Born in New York City and raised in Baltimore, Mindy wandered the Maryland woods in her childhood wondering when she’d get back to NYC to Mama Leone’s real Italian restaurant. Seriously, she did wander woods and she did long for NYC and great Italian food. She got a BA at Oberlin College and a BFA at the San Francisco Art Institute. Then she worked her way back to NYC by way of Toronto, Paris and Chile.
“My painting is a process, starting with poetry and color, and not unlike evolution, metamorphosis through survival, or the natural transformation of rocks into figures by wind and water, abundance is carved away into essential images where the Word as spirit, the Earth as mother create a world. I cannot predict how the beginning will evolve to the end in any painting. I just weave my way to the fascinating end with spiritual and unconscious guidance.” |
